NEW DELHI: Samsung has finally made announced the launch date of the Galaxy Note 8 phablet. The company, which was recently rumoured to introduce the device on August 23, is in fact, holding its ‘Galaxy Unpacked’ event on the same date. The main event will take place in Park Avenue Armory, New York at 11AM EST (8.30PM IST).
The company will also be live streaming the event on its own website.
Although the invites sent by Samsung does not mention ‘Galaxy Note 8’ anywhere, but it clearly shows a handset in the landscape mode along with an S-Pen. The handset shows the text “Do Bigger Things” inside.
“On August 23rd, Samsung Electronics will reveal the latest member of the Galaxy family with the ultimate multitasking device for those who want to do bigger things with their phone,” says the company blog post. Furthermore, the post says that the upcoming handset is “specifically designed for people who move through barriers to do more of what matters to them.”
The launch date of the handset falls few days ahead of that of the LG V30. The company’s other South Korean rival, LG has already sent out invitations to select media houses for a pre-IFA August 31 launch date for its LG V30 phablet.
Although the Galaxy Note 8 will be launched on August 23, it may hit the Indian shelves by October . According to a recent report by the Eprice website, Samsung Mobile head DJ Koh said that after the Galaxy Note 8’s announcement, the first wave of units will be hitting the shelves in September. Some of the first countries to get the device will include the United States, UK, and South Korea. Other countries — perhaps India as well — will reportedly get the phablet sometime in October.
No confirmed details about the device’s specification are known as of now. However, several reports speculate that it could feature a dual rear camera setup and Bixby digital assistant, which debuted with the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+. It is also likely to sport the ‘Infinity Display’ screen with minimal bezels on top and bottom.
